Cashmere is actually one of the most sought after fabrics on the planet and originates from the cashmere domestic goat, which are now bred in many parts of India and Mongolia. It was once the case that Cashmere wool was the preserve for the more affluent amongst us, but now it has become a comfortable fabric affordable for all!

Cashmere, or goat down, is a source of wool that is processed to become pure cashmere fibres for luxury clothing as well as other textiles. The name Cashmere comes from Kashmir, a state in the north of India where Mongolians first introduced Cashmere garments and goats as they expanded the Mongol Empire. This is where Europeans first became aware of Cashmere.

The goats themselves have two types of hair to combat the climates they live in; soft undercoat hair and long outer hair. When the hair is collected from the goat, the long outer hair is separated from the short undercoat hair, as the soft undercoat hair is what Cashmere is made from. The cleaner this undercoat hair is when collected the more pure the yarn will be in yoga clothing.

As well as being much softer than normal wool fibres, pure Cashmere is also much warmer. Our cashmere clothing such as sweaters and scarves are very effective garments to wear in cold, winter weather, and are available in a wide range of colours, designs and styles. Cashmere fibres are very flexible and can be woven into lightweight or heavier, chunky garments.

When purchasing Cashmere clothing, it is best to select only the purest fibres. Genuine, pure cashmere is soft and comfortable to wear and will last a lifetime if carefully looked after. Cheap imitations will pill and bobble after little wearing and will not offer nearly as good value for money. All our Cashmere is produced in Italy.

When choosing how to wash and dry our Wellicious cashmere clothing, you should consider how important the garment is to you. Cashmere can be very sensitive, so if you do not want to risk damaging your garment, then hand washing and drying the item may well be the best option for you.

- Washing of Wellicious Cashmere

When it comes to hand washing, cashmere is a fairly easy material to deal with. It can be easily washed in either cold or warm water, although it is important to be aware of the colour of the garment when you are deciding on just how warm or cold to make the temperature of the washing water. Obviously, to avoid damage or fading, it is best not to wash cashmere clothing in very hot water.

- Dryingof Wellicious Cashmere

Under no circumstances should you try and dry any cashmere clothing in a machine dryer. Cashmere in yoga clothing is a sensitive fabric that is prone to damage in the industrial heat of a machine dryer. It is far more sensible for you dry cashmere clothing on an even, flat surface, preferably outside in the fresh air. It is possible to dry cotton cashmere yoga clothes on a washing line but there will always be the risk of the garment losing some of its shape. Drying the garment on a flat surface should prevent this problem and leave you with a cashmere garment which looks just as good as the day you bought it!
